Known as Southern Sugar, singer songwriters Laura Ashworth and Kelley Corwin, knew when they started writing together, they had a special musical chemistry. Laura, originally from Charlotte, NC now resides in Brevard, NC. While music has always been a part of her life, she has been a professional musician and songwriter for the past 20 years. She played professionally with Blue Mountain Myst. They created a huge fan base in the southeast with sold out shows and were featured live on PBS.
Kelley, from Houston, TX, now also lives in Brevard, NC. She started pursuing songwriting in 2007. Kelley states, “Initially, I just wanted to write songs to make friends laugh, but when I was offered $3,000 for one of my songs, I thought … why not have some fun…and make money, too!”
They met and began collaborating when Kelley started taking guitar lessons from Laura. When the combination of Laura’s poetic lyrics and soulful melodies are stirred in with Kelley’s fun loving, heartfelt stories of timeless circumstances with some sassy southern flare, they create original songs that not only touch a variety of genres including Americana and Country, but touch the emotions of the heart.
Their songs have been placed in prestigious songwriting contests including the International Songwriting Contest and Nashville Tennessee Concert Songwriting Contest, which resulted in rave reviews as being hit songwriters. Their songs have aired worldwide by well known artists including Joshua Singleton. They have also shared the stage at songwriting festivals with Hall of Fame songwriters including Allen Shamblin and have been a part of Frank Brown International Songwriters Festival since 2014. Currently, they are working on projects with Nashville Singer Songwriter Joshua Singleton, Americana Artist Shannon Whitworth along with Michael Ashworth of the Grammy Award Winning Steep Canyon Rangers.
So… “gitcha some Southern Sugar!”
