McNatt, Don

Don McNatt was known in Nashville, as the “TV Guy “, for his “WRITERS IN THE ROUND” series that he produced and hosted in Hollywood, CA, then in Nashville, TN for over 15 years. The program featured some of our greatest songwriters, and Don’s newest songs for over 100 episodes. Don has been writing and performing his songs for, well, let’s say decades. He was the son of Grand Ole Opry Fiddler, and partner to Eddy Arnold, Speedy McNatt. Don’s dad taught him well, and he gets quoted in Don’s book “THINGS I’VE LEARNED FROM THE AUDIENCE”, available wherever downloads are sold. Over the years Don has based in Memphis, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Nashville, before coming to Perdido Key. He is a longtime member of the Screen Actors Guild, and you’ll see him ( if you recognize him ) in some films, TV shows and commercials, especially from the 80’s and 90’s. A production of HAIR, and a couple of Rock Bands including Quo Jr. in the 70’s, had Country Music Weekly Magazine calling Don a “Memphis Legend”. Nashville Music Guide described him as a ” virtuoso guitar/singer/songwriter, and television personality”. Country Music Entertainment, USA said “Don approaches each song with enthusiasm and conveys their varied styles with precision”. In 2014 the Rhythm and Blues Society in Nashville presented Don with a Lifetime Achievement Certification. The California Country Music Association ( CCMA ) nominated Don for Entertainer of the Year for 4 years running, and voted him MALE VOCALIST OF THE YEAR in 1991, and again in 1993. For the last 15 years or so, Don has done a lot of traveling and playing with his wife Karen. They’ve taken their songs to Europe, Australia, and most of the states, including Alaska, and Hawaii. Here, they’re called the MACS.
